The Administrative Court actively participated in the work of the Round Table on the topic of the asylum system in the Republic of Serbia, organized by the Judicial Academy and the UNHCR Representation in Serbia, on October 2 and 3, 2024 in Vrdnik, at the “Fruške Terme” hotel. The program of the Round Table was opened by the UNCHR Representative in Serbia, Mr. Soufiane Adjali, Director of the Judicial Academy, Mr. Nenad Vujic, Head of the Border Police of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Dragan Samolovac and President of the Administrative Court, Judge Radojka Marinkovic, who indicated that the administrative matter of asylum is one of 150 legal matters in which judicial protection is ensured in an administrative dispute, but also that the Administrative Court is deeply aware of the importance and sensitivity of this legal matter, especially in the sphere of protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the current global and social relations and the tendency of their duration. She expressed special gratitude especially to the UNHCR for recognizing the importance and the role of the Administrative Court in the strengthening of the institutional frameworks in the field of asylum and support in improving the efficiency and quality of judicial protection in asylum procedures and strengthening the rule of law.
The first day of the Round Table was dedicated to the exchange of experiences and the review of challenges and opportunities in the asylum and migration law. The second day of the Round Table was dedicated to the possibilities for professional development from the aspect of the administrative legal matter, with focus on the following topics: 1) National Security and Persons Seeking International Protection and 2) The Effective Legal Remedy in the Asylum Procedure.
On behalf of the Administrative Court, the Round Table was attended, along with the President of the Administrative Court, Judge Radojka Marinkovic, by Judge Jelica Pajovic and Advisor for International Cooperation, Professional Development and Training, Ivana Kovacevic.
